News clipping of AWAS anti-aircraft battery roles, NSW, [1942-1943]
This news clipping discusses the role AWAS women performed in the coastal defence of NSW during World War II. With much of the adult male population stationed elsewhere for the war effort, women were called upon to serve as gunners and bombardiers. Several anti-aircraft batteries in Fortress Newcastle were manned by AWAS women.
