mflapan1: The steamer alongside the berth to the left of the photo is the "SS Pacific" that was chartered to the Adelaide Steamship Co during 1897. She was engaged in the trade between the Eastern States and Western Australia to meet the demand during the Kalgoorlie Gold Rush. mflapan1: Earlier that month the Pacific was involved in a serious collision in Newcastle Harbour with "SS Shaftsbury". It looks to me that some of the bow plates in the photo may be new or painted.

taylorkingston: Nice job, mflapan1... !!! "SS Pacific" is listed as exporting 150 tons hay, 147 bullocks, 60 bulls, 100 1/2 sacks flour, and 1200 tons coal. trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/134878251/10139690# She departed Newcastle on 19 June 1897.
