Image shows the Glebe 'A' pit buildings. Miners are standing in front of coal carriages marked with the initials NCMC (Newcastle Coal Mining Company). Photograph has been indexed as payday at Glebe 'A' pit. It is more likely that the image is of the Newcastle Coal Mining Coy's "B" Pit at Merewether. (Additional information courtesy of Mr John W. eskbank99: Refer to other photo of locomotive No 62XX for full history of this locomotive. This is loco No 62 of the O(60) class 0-6-0 sold by the NSWGR to the Newcastle Coal Mining Co in 1897. When transferred the loco had the number 62XX on it's cab sides. In this photo, the numbers have been painted out, in fact the whole loco looks freshly painted. Another picture of this same loco at Newcastle 'A' pit dated 24/2/1899 has the loco dirty and worn , so this photo is some time after transfer in 1897 but before the 24/2/1899 photo, so my guess is sometime in 1898 and not 24/2/1899 as stated. It is assumed Newcastle Coal Mining Co operated both the A pit at Newcastle and the B pit at Mereweather as NCMC wagons are in both photos.

Baldy McSpecs: This is the B Pit with its square chimney. The A Pit had a round chimney.
