romeybalas: The location description is incorrect. The view is from the corner of the Pacific Highway and Ida Street looking south down Smith Street. The Pacific Highway veers to the right. Where the hotel is on the right is now the Landmark appartments. As of July 2009 the second cottage on the left was still standing.

hedfram2: In 1908 the licensee of this hotel would have been William S. Jewell. William E. Howarth took over in 1919. I thank 'romeybalas" for the comments re location. The hotel is listed as being in Ida Street. Bedford-29: This is looking down Ridley St Charlestown
