SummaryInterview by Lesley Dickinson in 1989 with 84 year old Stephen Simpson about his family business and bootmaking in Lambton.
Stephen was born in Ralph Street, Jesmond in 1905, he attended Jesmond School and left school at 14 to start an apprenticeship with Mr Walton's bootmaker at New Lambton. It was there he learned to mend and sew shoes.
He started his own business in 1931 from a single room in Morehead Street Lambton, later buying a shop in Elder Street.
Throughout the interview he describes the people of Lambton, the businesses that existed there, and other general information about the surrounding suburbs.
