NSWGR C36, no. 3612, fitted with smoke deflectors, 1930's, leaving station at head of passenger train, unidentified location
According to Leon Oberg's reference book, there were only two C36's that were ever fitted with experimental smoke deflectors. The numbers aren't given, but 3612 was obviously one of them. This was done during the 1930's but the exact years aren't given. The smoke deflectors were later removed.
The row of coal hoppers in the background suggests the location may be in the Newcastle area, but this is not definitive.
