Outdoor portrait of thirteen members of the 6th Light Horse Regiment, Citizens Military Forces (CMF), from Cessnock, NSW, who enlisted to form part of A Squadron, 1st Australian Light Horse Regiment in 1914.

The officer identified at the front of the troop is Second Lieutenant (2nd Lt) Garnet Edmund Iles Tinson.

Enlisting in August 1914, 2nd Lt Tinson left Australia for Egypt in October 1914 and arrived on the Gallipoli peninsular in May 1915. He was promoted to Lieutenant on 1 Feb 1915. 

Lt Tinson was the officer in charge of the bombing section during the 1st Light Horse Regiment's attack on the Turkish positions at The Chessboard on 7 August 1915. He was wounded in the legs by a bomb and was evacuated to the hospital ship RMS Dunluce Castle where he died two days later, aged 28. 

Lt Tinson was buried at sea between Imbros and Mudros, and consequently has no known grave.
