AddBy: Margie Wallin28th Feb 2024 4:12PMMy grandfather, Frank Jenks, held a range of positions within the Rylands company - starting as a draughtsman (age 18) when he emigrated to Australia from England, with a team who were to establish Rylands, Newcastle.
In 1938 he had a patent for high-speed wire-drawing granted in the United States.

He retired in 1967, leaving the position of Manager, Australian Wire Industries (AWI). He had a lifelong interest in wire - to the extent that on family picnics he would pay special attention to the fencing wire used on the properties they passed.
He also had a lifelong commitment to learning and education, and was actively involved in the development of the University of Newcastle (from its origins as the Newcastle Technical College).
