The Countrywoman in New South Wales journal was first published in 1938. Each edition would remark on world events, most especially Australia and Britain's involvement in World War II, and events and activities undertaken by regional branches of the CWA (Country Women's Association) in NSW. Newcastle and other groups across the Greater Hunter region were included in these editions. The publication of these journals throughout World War II provides insight into life on the home front and the war-time contributions of regional and rural Australian women.
