"The NSW State Dockyard"
This article describes the contributions of Newcastle to the shipbuilding efforts of World War II. From 1942, the dockyard at Walsh Island produced many types of vessels, details of which are given here. An introduction is provided by (then) Premier Hon John Cahill (1952-1959), who oversaw the dockyards during World War II as the Minister for Public Works.
