Footage of Victory in the Pacific (VP) Day (edited), Newcastle, NSW, 15 August 1945
This rare 16mm colour film documents the celebrations in Newcastle on Victory in the Pacific (VP) Day, also known as VJ Day (Victory over Japan), on 15 August 1945. After this day where Japan announced its surrender, World War II would come to an official end a few weeks later on 2 September 1945. This version has been edited with audio and shortened.
The film footage was donated by Mrs Vera Findlay to Greg and Sylvia Ray in 2019.
