Interview with Thomas Wright about farming - 1988 (sound bite)

Interview by Yvonne Eggins in 1988 with Thomas Wright about farming in the Morpeth and Phoenix Park area. Thomas is the sixth generation of his family to farm at Phoenix Park over 150 year period. He relates a story of his grandfather who was a farmer but also provided a 'traveling picture show' and a brass band, which played on the hill at Raworth. His family were associated with building the Morpeth Bridge, he recalls the busy port and commercial activity of the area. Thomas also describes the Maitland flood that swept through the area in 1955.

The Margaret Henry Oral History Archive is a collection of audio tapes, transcripts, summaries and essays that were part of the Oral Histories Open Foundation Course (1986-1989). Margaret Henry was a history lecturer at the UON in the 1980s.
