Interview by Lynette Jackson in 1989 with Ian Sherman about the history of cordial manufacturing in Newcastle and the Hunter Region.

Origins of the Y.Y Cordial factory started with George Edward Redman who opened a cordial factory in Newcastle in 1862 in Blane Street, Newcastle, later moving to larger premises in Newcomen Street, and Wickham.

The business became part of the N.S.W. Aerated Water & Confectionery Company in 1896, other family members were involved operating from premises near Bank Corner, Devon Street in Wallsend and in 1954 moved the opened a factory and warehouse at Orlando Road, Lambton.

The Margaret Henry Oral History Archive is a collection of audio tapes, transcripts, summaries and essays that were part of the Oral Histories Open Foundation Course (1986-1989). Margaret Henry was a history lecturer at the UON in the 1980s.
