The following is a collated history of the University Campus Scamper – a fun run around the University of Newcastle Callaghan (Shortland) campus, compiled from articles and reports of the event contained in University publications, The Gazette, University News, Campus Bulletin, University Bulletin, Uninews, the Sports Union’s Backpage, Sports Union Annual Reports and Sports Union records, from 1977 to 2002.

Several photographs of the Campus Scamper can be found on the University Library site at https://livinghistories.newcastle.edu.au/ The photographs of the event on the University Library site are identified in this publication in bold eg P3007-34.

The names of the athletes in the winning teams that were inscribed on the badges attached to the Commonwealth Bank Shield, are listed on the final page.
