The Many Kinds of Love
English being a very young language only has one word for “love”; the Ancient Greeks had eight conceptions. This exhibition uses the ancient Greek vocabulary of love as a guiding structure, moving visitors through many kinds of love:
- Eros - Passionate, Longing Romantic Love, or Lust
- Philia - Love Between Friends
- Storge - Familial Love and Kinship
- Agape - Altruistic & Universal Love
- Ludus - Playful, Joyous, Flirtatious Love
- Pragma - Enduring Love Over Time
- Mania - Obsessive Love
- Philautia - Self Love
Invitation to Join In
We are inviting you all to join in and participate with us in sending a message of Love from Newcastle, to the world. We would love to hear from poets, creative writers, artists, especially.
We are asking people from across the Library, University and local regional communities to share their favourite stories. Some of the best might be included, (you never know), bridging the gap between the past and present.
