A march from Pacific St, Newcastle, kicked off the day-long festivities on Saturday. Participants then gathered at Newcastle Foreshore's Merewether St woolsheds for a smorgasbord of speeches, stalls and entertainment. Organiser Jillian Meyers-Brittain said the day addressed women's issues including cuts to health care funding, the GST and racism. `Hunter women have gathered to voice their protests against the negative impact of funding cuts to the Mater hospital, the GST on women and racist policies and behaviour,' Ms Meyers-Brittain said.
