UON Library,University of Newcastle, Australia: Val Fearby writes (Email 7/26/12 8:18 AM): I have been searching the internet for family history regarding the Hickey Family who were involved with Osterley. After the sale if this property they were then living at either Lidney or Chevely. I believe these photos described as "Osterley" not to be correct. The Hickey family had well and truly divested their interest of Osterley many years before. I believe it to be "Chevely". My connection to this family is through Allen Hickey (1887) and his second wife Annie Aemelia Stuart (d: 1861). He then married Mary Ann Watkins in 1863 who is the Mrs Hickey (d: 1919) mentioned in the article below. The Morton Bay Fig Tree being the reason for the ultimate destruction of this house. MAITLAND MERCURY - January 14, 1890 "Our attention has been drawn of late to the wonderful improvements around us. We omitted to mention in our last correspondence that our old and esteemed friend Mrs. Allen Hickey has had her homestead quite altered in appearance. Her house, which is well worthy of notice is built of brick; it contains some 13 rooms in all; including underground cellars, some of the rooms being 23 foot 6 inches by 16ft 12 inches high; it has a hall running through 5 foot wide; all the rooms inside have been newly plastered, all woodwork painted, the roof has been altered and covered with iron. There has been a new dining room added to the building 19 foot long. The ceiling of this room is lined with Breeza pine and varnished, which gives it a quite delightful appearance; but above all noticeable is the large verandahs which run all round the building. Total length of the verandah 136ft., and 9ft 6in wide, most of which is all new. The alterations have been carried out under the careful instructions of Mr. Charles Holmes, Architect, West Maitland, and also to the credit and satisfaction of Mrs. Hickey.
