Description
InformationMy name is Alan MacIntyre, the eldest of 8 MacIntyre children born to Donald and Brenda MacIntyre who moved to Bolwarra in 1965. Our family lived further down the road at "Gowan Brae" 59 Kensington Road. At this address Dad operated a veterinary practice between 1965-1976.
I well recall the Jones' home illustrated above and regularly rambled through it between 1965-1970 along with my brother Peter, as did my younger brothers Ronald (who, 3 years ago re-purchased Gowan Brae) and Kenneth (since deceased). In those days the home was known as and used as a barn which likely accords with the name "Corner's Barn". The top story functioned as storage of bales of hay and a hay-stack which we used to climb and rummage through. The (eastern?) wall closest to Kensington Road was in disrepair with a large chunk (quarter?) of the central section falling down. The lower story was mostly used for farm and garage equipment storage. Fairly sure some of the inside walls were white-washed and also fairly sure it was owned by the next door estate owners the Hicks family.
I furthermore recall meeting Athel D'Ombrain, the photographer of the above, on a few occasions whilst he was visiting and taking photographs of Gowan Brae.
