The image pre-dates electrification of the Adamstown tram line in January 1925, and is after the redevelopment of the Herbert's Theatre as a brick building, which happened during 1923-1924. The poster on the right hand side of the entrance is advertising Gladys Walton in "The Girl Who Ran Wild", which was being screened at the theatre in September 1923.

Baldy McSpecs: The hotel in the background is the Premier Hotel. There are two other images of it in the Cultural Collections already. The tram you can see is actually a 'trailer' being pulled by a steam powered tram engine. This pre-dates electrification which began in 1923. The motor lorry has a signboard "Adamstown", so perhaps it is a bus. The building on the right is a large waiting room for tram/bus passengers, with a lean-to toilet behind it. The 'tower' is a sewer vent pipe. Down the side of the theatre are two petrol bowsers for the Mobil petrol station.
