Cow catchers certainly were used in Australia - as a necessity in some rural areas. N0_T0M0RR0W: The clarity of this image is amazing! If I was related to one of these guys I might recognise him easily. Here is an earlier image of the same station, approximately 1892, when the line was finally completed. It's interesting to note the differences. archival-classic.sl.nsw.gov.au/item/itemLarge.aspx?itemID.... I believe the station name changed shortly after the Canbelego rush 3 miles down the road took off - still to define this.
