"SPORTING NEWS

The University was host for the lnter-Varsity Squash and Cross Country Championships during the August-September (1977) vacation.

In the Cross Country Competition there were some fine individual performances, notably Rod Lyons (La Trobe). who won the Men's 12,000 metres and Penelope Francis (New England) who won the women's 4,000 metres. 

 Full results:  The Cross Country Cup, won by Newcastle, with 70 points. 

The Men's 12,000 Metres Open Cross Country, won by R. Lyons (La Trobe) 39,43.    The Women's 4,000 Metres Open Cross Country, won by P. Francis (N.E.) 16,41. 

The Men's Team Race 12,000 Metres, won by Macquarie.  The Women's Team Race 4,000 Metres, won by New England.

The Men's Relay 4 x 5,000 Metres, won by Monash.   The Women's Relay 4 x 5,000 Metres, won by Composite Team, Newcastle and La Trobe."
