Starfish Fungus or Anemone Stinkhorn (Aseroe rubra). In 1800 this striking stinkhorn became the first Australian fungal species to be described and classified for Western science, being given the Latin name Aseroe rubra. This literally translates as "terrible red", perhaps referring to both its lurid appearance and disagreeable odour.
