dunedoo: Hi, I'm an admin for a group called Pubs of Australia, and we'd love to have this added to the group! UON Library,University of Newcastle, Australia: Done! Gretta_H: I found this on google maps 2 Branksome St, Cassilis, NSW, Australia dunedoo: I don't think the pub was at 2 Branksome St, but instead was around the corner at 4 Buccleugh St. What makes me say that is the chimney at the house at 2 Branksome St is in the wrong position in the roof, plus the building has a number of doors, the pub only has 2. Plus behind the pub is a hill, there is no such hill behind the building in 2 Branksome St, The site at 4 Buccleugh St is vacant now with no building on it. I did a search on google for the Cassilis Hotel, even looked at Gday pubs, but neither turned up anything. hedfram2: Solomon Huxley is first listed as licensee of the Cassilis Hotel in 1900 until 1910. morbieus: Solomon Huxley (1863-1948) was a descendant (great grandson) of Ann Forbes, a First Fleet convict and Thomas Huxley, a third fleet convict. The next photo in this collection can be compared with Google street view to provide a location of approx. 11 Buccleugh St in Cassilis. The Royal Hotel can be seen as a reference in both. The Cassilis Hotel was destroyed by fire in late November or early December 1917. It was 77 years old. www.wikitree.com/wiki/Huxley-90 UON Library,University of Newcastle, Australia: Thankyou kindly Paul Bech for the information you have provided us.
