STUDENTS ELECT COUNCIL MEMBERS

Text page 2:   "MS JANE AZEVEDO and MR KENT GILLMAN are the newly elected members of Council elected by students.  In the ballot conducted to elect the two student members, 836 votes were cast.  Mr Gillman received 395 votes, Ms Azevedo 281 and Ms Glenyce Wall 160.   Both Council members indicated that they were staunch supporters of open government and would do their bit to have as many of Council's deliberations as possible open to members of the University.  They submitted statements giving their views about the main issues and matters affecting students:"

"At the Council's meeting on June 10 [1988], the Chancellor, Dr Elizabeth Evatt, welcomed four newly-elected members of the Council:  The Honourable Virginia Chadwick, MLC, elected by the Legislative Council of New South Wales;  Mr George Souris, MLA, elected by the Legislative Assembly of New South Wales;  Ms Jane Azevedo, elected by the students; and Mr Kent Gillman, elected by the students."
