DescriptionNobby's Island from Mullumbimba Cottage, (c.1830). Watercolour, ink, 27.4 x 41.0 cm. Inscribed: below image l.l. - l.r. "NOBBY'S ISLAND FROM MULLUMBIMBA COTTAGE, Newcastle." Presented by Mr Stanley Lipscombe, September 1968. Mullumbimba Cottage was built by Simon Kemp c.1830 on the corner of King and Wolfe Streets (93 King Street), Newcastle. Its name in local Aboriginal dialect means "sweet water", and comes from the well at the site. 1968.56. Mulubinba is also recorded as the name of the site of Newcastle, from an indigenous edible fern named Mulubin.
