eskbank99: The engine is an O(60) class 0-6-0 passenger locomotive constructed by Robert Stephenson & Co in England and erected by Mort & Co in Sydney, commenced service October 1874. Six(6) were built numbered 60 to 65 No 62 was sold by the NSW Government Railways in 1897 to the Newcastle Coal Mining Co for use on the Glebe line carrying the NSWGR number of 62XX across(the XX was added by the NSWGR to denote surplus stock), later passing to the Australian Agricultural Co in 1903. A later shot of this loco dated 24/2/1899 in Newcastle Coal Mining Co service shows it with the numbers gone. Hence it can be assumed this photo was taken not long after transferring from the NSWGR, around 1897 while it still has the numbers on the cab and not the incorrect date of Feb 1899 Ken Boyle: Can somebody tell me where the steam cylinder is on this loco. The driving rods are clearly seen linking the drive wheels but I cannot work out how the steam power is being applied to the rods. hphil1809: 2 cylinders between loco frames, under the smokebox, driving middle axle
