InformationFrom an examination of Ralph Snowball's Glass Plate Box Lid No. 276 www.flickr.com/photos/uon/3574646381/ where he recorded the date and subjects of his photographs, he lists 6 photographs being taken on the 14 March 1902, namely: 2. Mr A Ross Group Wallsend 2. Mr A Ross House 2. Drawing Room The photograph depicts the exterior of the Wallsend Colliery Manager's residence, and the women in the family of Alexander Ross. He was Colliery Manager from as least the 21st August 1889 to October 1911. "The house, the second colliery manager's house was built by December 1867 and considerably extended in the early 1880s at the request of the first manager to reside there, John Young Neilson. The last company manager to reside in the house was Henry David Hill who lived there until November 1934. The home's name "Woodlands" first appeared in electoral rolls for 1915. During the 1940s "Woodlands" was converted for use as a home for "destitute children". Beginning in 1989 through to 1990 the house was restored to something of its Victorian grandeur by the UPA (United Protestants Association) of NSW." - Ed Tonks.
