AddBy: Steve Carrall14th Oct 2022 12:49PMI think this is Rose Street Merewether looking ~SSE from near Selwyn Street (Rose St becomes Ridge St after crossing Morgan St). If so:
1. The hilltop in the background is approximately today's Woodward St, including its projection through to Ridge St.
2. The near horizontal line of disturbed earth partly down the hill is likely to be the Newcastle Coal Mining Co.'s "A" Pit railway. This railway operated in the section covered by the photo from circa 1887 to 1954.
