UON Library, University of Newcastle, Australia: Comments from Newcastle Herald readers of "A Moment in Time" Feature from Helen Gregory: Elaine Street sent the Herald an email about the photo in the March 3 Moment in Time, which showed the Newcastle to Carrington horse bus at Speers Point on December 27, 1907. ''May I suggest this is a photo of a Picnic Day at Speers Point, as a reason why the bus is there,'' she wrote. ''Speers Point was an important place in the late 1800's to the 1900's, for several reasons. ''I remember my husband's mother's relatives telling stories of their weekender/summer holiday house, Palm Cottage, at Belmont South, in the days before the road was built from Newcastle to Belmont. ''They would catch a train from Wickham to Cockle Creek Station, then travel on a horse drawn bus to Speers Point wharf, followed by a ferry ride to Belmont.'' ''In my youth, I went to many Sunday School Picnics at Speers Point or Blackalls Parks from the 1940's to 1950's, travelling by double decker buses.''

deborah.lipari: This was identified by my cousin sharyn plancia as a photo of our family. my grt grandfather is 16 & in the sailor's suit. the older lady in black is Lydia Clay Davies. photo includes Louis W C Lauer, Florence Mary Lauer. I believe the older lady in white top deck may be Emily Lauer, & photo probably includes Harold Glyndon Lauer (9),possibly some of Louis Lauer's brothers & sisters, & possibly some of Florence's brothers & sisters; william &/George davies, Maude Louisa Cannington (nee Davies), Jessie & Percival Taylor.
