Edward commented: David Thomas became the licensee of the Cardiff Hotel on 16 April 1890. He held it until 11 July 1901 when succeeded by James Wilson.

Jo Cole commented: Andrew Henry Lathan also had the licence. He was ordered to make repairs and refurnish the accommodation of they would cancel his licence (December 1916).

The article mentions that another hotel had burnt down a few years before 1900, and that Edward Hughes was applying for a license for that site, obviously with intention to rebuild on that site. So it seems that the pictured hotel here burnt down, and Wilson is a new licensee on a new site.

Kelly Duncan commented: According to an article in The Sydney Mail and New South Wales Advertiser from Saturday, 10th February 1894, the hotel burned down the previous Sunday (4th Feb 1894) at 1:30am.
