By: David Porter17th Oct 2018 2:08PMThis is a view of the North Wing of Newcastle Hospital from the bottom of Pacific Park. The North Wing was opened in 1915 and closed for redevelopment as apartments in 2007.
The large monument is the Coal Monument.

"The Coal Monument was erected by the citizens of Newcastle as symbolic of the coal mining industry for which the city of Newcastle was famous. The foundation stone of the "Coal Monument" was laid during the jubilee celebrations of the incorporation of the municipality of Newcastle in 1859."

The Coal Monument is now located in the park in Parnell Place.
