About 100m north (to the left) of the bridge is the site of the A.A. Co. Karuah River sheep washpool. The washpool was built in 1832 and was operated until perhaps the late 1850s. It was a hot water soak and dam fed cold water jet spout pressure washing plant. The washpool employed about a dozen hands who hand washed each sheep and could process about 2400 sheep per day.
