SummaryInterview by Diane Blaxell in 1987 with Bill Payne owner of the ‘Melvic’ Theatre, Belmont.
Born in Merewether and moved to Wyong in young years, father met Mr Rumble who owned one of the first picture shows in NSW. From this meeting Bill's father become interested in theatres.
When Bill came to Newcastle he took on part time work at the theatre at Catherine Hill Bay. Believing a theatre would do well in Belmont went into business with Rex Sanderson opening the Melvic theatre.
