SummaryInterview by Robbin Hodges in 1987 with 83 year old horticulturalist Roy Whalan.
Roy describes how he was the first in family to go into the Nursery industry. Started the business in Adamstown and moved to Kotara in 1937.
His father was a miner in northern NSW, working near Glen innes.
Roy was educated at Armidale, later working on the coast and learning about trees, orchards, grafting and propagating trees.
In his later life was a member of the Blackbutt Reserve committee, he discusses the threats to the Reserve that included a proposed School and expressway.
In 1987 Roy had been married for 58 years, had 7 children, 29 grandchild, 9 great grandchildren.
