SummaryInterview by Pauline Eade in 1987 with Dr Eustace William Ferguson (1912-1999) about the Practice of Medicine in Mayfield. Dr Ferguson was born in Sydney in 1912, educated at Sydney Grammar School and attended University of Sydney and studied medicine. He married in 1936 and came to Newcastle in 1937 where he commenced as a resident medical officer at the Mater Hospital in Waratah. Dr Ferguson reflects on his career in medicine and as a GP at Mayfield, recalling some of the doctors he used to work with, such as Dr Ostinga, Sammy Gardiner, Mick Henry and Dr Harker. He also discusses many of the changes in the health system, including the Medicare Scheme.
