SummaryInterview by Kay Davies in 1987 with 86 year old Morpeth resident Tom Hickey. He reflects on the labor movement, history and tradition of great leaders of the working class. Described scholars such as CE Martin, Lloyd Ross, Higgins, ‘brilliant scholars’ at the University Department at the WEA in Newcastle. Many public meetings in opposition to WWII, some were held in Islington Park. Tom pays tribute to the old pioneers of the Trade Union Movement. The second part of the interview is about Morpeth, the steamer 'Sophia Jane', sequicentary of Morpeth and the demise of Duckenfield House.
