SummaryInterview by Mladen Lazic in 1989 with Doris Blatchford about the history of EH Blatchford in Newcastle. Doris Blatchford (nee Buchanan) was born in 1913 at Wallsend, she met her husband, Eric Blatchford in 1931 and they opened a small bakehouse the same year in Eric's family loungeroom. Blatchfords Pies was established at the height of the Depression, the first shop was at 182 Beaumont Street, Hamilton providing cakes and sponges. In 1968 Eric Blatchford died at the age of 57 years. The business was inherited by Doris Blatchford who then formed the company ' Blatchfords Pty. Ltd. In 1989 the business was situated at 145 Beaumont Street, Hamilton, owned by Bruce and Ross Blatchford.
