Summary Interview by Barb Taylor in 1987 with Arthur Goodwin a retired miner who spent well over forty years in the mining industry around the Rothbury and Branxton areas. Arthur was the youngest of 10 children, his parents John and Elizabeth Goodwin lived in the Branxton area. He was educated at Sister of Mercy convent school and in 1926 left school aged 14 to work as a 'Jigger boy' at the Rothbury collieries. Arthur remembers "very vividly the day the thousands of miners converged in the village of Rothbury in the chilly hours of the morning". He remained in the mining industry for over 40 years retiring in 1972.
