SummaryInterview by Narelle Penman in 1988 with Fran Dawson about the history of local government in Maitland. Starting in 1962, Fran served as an Alderman on Maitland's local council for twenty one years. She describes life in the council as the only woman, she got a lot of support from her husband and others. Fran describes how in the 1960s alderman were at 'loggerheads' as to whether Woolworths or Coles should come to East Maitland, she also talks about Maitland Art Gallery.
