Autonomy Day Complaint

Ald. Edwards last night described the antics of Newcastle University College students on Autonomy Day as “billygating, skylarking and jackassing.”

He unsuccessfully called for a report by the Town Clerk (Mr. Burges) on Autonomy Day student activities this month.

Ald McDougall said “Ald. Killjoy” (Ald. Edwards) seemed to have a grouch against most parts of the words these days.

The Lord Mayor (Ald. Purdue), who voted against a report being prepared, said the matter was not worthy if a special investigation.

Ald. Bell, said he did no condemn organisations because they might contain a few irresponsible.

The committee voted three-two against Mr. Burges compiling a report on the Autonomy Day activities.
