This is a photo of University Oval No. 3 under construction in 1989. 

Construction of the oval began in early 1988 and was effectively completed by March 1990 but not handed over to the University until November 1990.  This photo looks over the ground from the north side to the south.  The No. 2 Oval lights, Auchmuty Sports Centre (now the Auchmuty court within The Forum) and the tractor garage can all be seen In the background.  Survey pegs needed to contour the surface to the required gradients can also be seen on the ground.  The piles of topsoil which can be seen in the background in front of the garage help to date the photo, as the work of spreading a sand drainage blanket which was then covered with topsoil was done between late May and late August 1989. 

This photo, and P3040-14, appear to have been taken during the same period as P3040-32 but from the opposite side.
