OzMagoo1962: This photo is of my Great Grandparents, Julius Carl Maria Ansoul, born in Graudenz Prussia November 1853 (now Grudziadz Poland). He emigrated to Australia in 1877 aboard the SS Somersetshire, arriving in Port Melbourne (the passenger list for the voyage lists his occupation as engineer). By 1882 he was managing the Marcobrewer winery in Cessnock for his father-in-law Heinrich Bouffier. My Great Grandmother, in the photo, Catherine Bouffier was Heinrich's daughter. The two children are my great aunt Lenie (who I remember as a child, she passed away in Newcastle in 1970) and great uncle Augustus. In the photo, Catherine is pregnant with my maternal Grandmother Theresa Tripp (nee Ansoul) - born March 1891. Heinrich Bouffier (A.K.A. Buffier) died in 1882 of an injury sustained from falling from a horse (the coroner's finding). He was born in Nassau, Germany in 1815, and emigrated to Australia in 1849 aboard the Parland with his wife and infant child - with a whole group of other German vine dressers under a bounty scheme to help boot-strap the NSW and Hunter wine industries. perplexed1: Hi OzMagoo, my great grandmother was Katherine Bouffier. Your Catherine was her aunt. Heinrich Bouffier was my great great grandfather. His son Martin, your great grandmother's brother was my great grandfather. If you're interested in the Bouffiers do a search on the National Library's newspaper digitisation site. There's around 900 articles mentioning Bouffiers. I've tagged a couple recently which had details about the Ansouls. Did you know that Frank Hurley was a family member as well?
