These photographs are from the collection of Barry Howard, who was an Electrician in local coal mines such as Hebburn No. 2 and Northern (Rhondda) Colliery, and at Saxonvale Colliery, further up the Hunter Valley.
Barry has very kindly allowed the University to publish these wonderfully evocative photographs, mostly taken by himself or his father, Baden Howard. They show clearly the working conditions of the miners who contributed so much to the economy of this state and to that of Australia.
