Patricia Flowers was the Senior Librarian of the original University College Library from 1947 to 1960. During these years she met and married Ted Flowers, who became the first University Librarian when the University of Newcastle became autonomous in 1965. In her retirement, Pat served as secretary of the Friends of the University of Newcastle. From 1984 to 2007 she was the convener of the annual University Book Fair and organized Rare Book Auctions, raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for the University.
In 1992 the Flowers Room in the Auchmuty Library was dedicated to both Pat and Ted in recognition for all they have achieved as pioneering librarians of the University.
