First came to Weston, 1902 (age 6).
Born 1896, Bedangle near Wellington.
Father was a haulage pit engine driver, East Greta.

Recalls walking from Stanford to Hebburn.
Early road from Kurri to Maitland.

Early track from Kurri to Cessnock, bush track through the pit.
He worked as a coal carter, Hebburn.
Early road government road planning. Weston owned a mile square and sold up to the pit when it came.

His family first lived in tent. Baker's brickworks, Kurri (Baker family from East Maitland). Level crossing, Weston.

Early convenience store at Kurri was owned by the Murdochs.
Recalls taking order for groceries from MacDonalds at Mulbring - the groceries were carried on a spring cart.
Attended school at Weston public for three years from 9 till 12.

Recalls early railway and stations - Aberdare Junction. East Greta Heddon Greta, Stanford and Pelaw Main.
"Chinaman's Garden's", Weston were established before his family came in 1902.
First pub established in Kurri in 1903 - Jones was the publican.
The land was owned by Weston and auctioned by lot numbers. Priced at £15 per block.

Location of first picture show, Weston - First Street.
Monty went to school in Sheddon's Hall, Weston

Olympia picture show, Jenkins had the pub and the picture show.
School of Arts building, Weston.

School of Arts held first "talkies".
The Methodist church was also a place where school was held.
Original church school was burnt down - he'd left school by then. He used to cart bricks which came by train.

Location of two Neath brickworks.
Denman Hotel, Aberdare have the old bricks from Neath.
Neath Hotel, Neath have bricks from Maitland.
Wages paid for carrying bricks - 30/- a week 6 days a week - Monty was working for a fellow called Bailey for 3 years. 1912.

Recollection of "bag humpies", Neath - across from the railway track.
Original police station, Weston - in First Street.
Recollection of first pub opening - the first publican had his cut out with a glass. "Fighting was a sport in those days".

Hebburn managers were Harle was before Stan McKensey
"Digger" Lewis was at No2.

Location of original Post Office, Weston, corner of Third and Station Streets. Walters was the first post master.

Price of meat, c. 1910 - 6d a pound.

Ice works, Weston - Malcolm Williams.
Recollection of first barber, Weston - Panter was the Billy McFadden, first postman delivered by horse - he became the post master.

Town lighting connected to Weston from the pit. Stanford was first then Richmond Main.
Charlie Hampton, horse bus driver - two horses.
First job was working in Joe Doyle's stables - he refused to continue at school and got a job 10/- a week at the livery stables. 1909.
He drove people to Ellalong. Bellbird was just starting.

"Mrs Curry's Corner" - she sold "sly grog and everything".
O'Neill's wine saloon - "the plonk shop".
Recollection of early travellers - they camped down on the creek.
Father worked at Abermain No. 2. Early fire brigade,
Dick Jarvis was the first fire chief. It was just a reel pulled by hand.

Recollection of horse ambulance - Pelaw Main had a horse ambulance.
John Brown - he used to stay at Richmond Main.
King's Hall, Kurri Kurri. Galloway's was the first picture show.
Lane & Quinn's store, Cessnock
