Frank Scanlon (1906-1986)- Ditton & Hill Coachbuilder. Recorded 5 February 1979. Part 1/1
Frank Scanlon was born at Weston in 1906 the son of Patrick Scanlon. Mr Scanlon's grandfather once operated a small pit in the Maitland area.
Frank Scanlon followed his father by working on the carriages at South Maitland Railways.
He had previously served his cabinet making apprenticeship with Barringham & Johnson's, a firm situated in Cessnock. Mr Scanlon recalls building the first ever bus body for Ditton & Hill in 1922.
Mr Scanlon was also involved with Cessnock Hospital, being elected onto the board of directors in 1946 where he served eight years as treasurer and seven as vice-president.
