Pat Shanahan (1903-1985) - Timekeeper. Recorded 25 April 1984. Part 1/2
Pat Shanahan was born at Branxton in 1903. He started work at the age of 16 at Rothbury Colliery and was President of the Rothbury Miners Lodge at the time of the Rothbury riots in 1929.
After the closure of Rothbury in 1931 he worked as a labourer/timekeeper for the railways from 1935-68. In the interview, Mr Shanahan describes differing aspects of mining, including fellow workers, staff members and mining methods.
