Jack Proudfoot - the McKendry were involved in the pits.

Merv Harris - his mother was Miss Luth. She married Sam Harris.

Dennis Durham - Mrs Durham was a Harris. He was related to Merv Harris. Merv married Dossie Ridley from Cessnock.

Harry McKendry took up a selection of land.

Jim Clark and Ross McMahon - both worked on the Greta roads with a horse and dray. Council put the trees in. The fire brigade didn't exist in the early days.

Frank remembers the first motor car with a chain drive belt. The first were Tin Lizzies about 1923/24.

Frank was employed in relief work during the Depression earning 1 pound a week.

Recollection of "snow dropping" or thieving off the clothes line. "It was a struggle to live". "No wonder the pubs shut". Beer was 6d a pint.

Darryl Brown, undertaker in Branxton - he had two horses and a black hearse. People had to organise their own grave digger. It cost around a pound to have the grave dug. If a baby died people would carry the white coffin and if it was a girl, the girls would carry it - if it was a boy, the boys would carry it.
The interview resumes after a short tour of Greta (Saturday, 14 January 1984).
